Meet Adorable Harper, our new Recruitment Manager.
If you believe that life is about the journey and not the destination, then the experience of your work and whom you work with becomes paramount. I believe everyone in life seeks a compelling story or narrative to be a part of. We are hard wired to pursue the betterment of ourselves and the betterment of those around us. What is Matchbook Learning’s compelling narrative? Adorable will be responsible for sharing our story, hearing about what is compelling about our narrative from our staff and in turn sharing it with future prospects as we build and grow our team. I asked Adorable to share a little about her story and her journey to Matchbook Learning.
What would you describe as the biggest challenge of being our Recruiting Manager?
As the Recruitment Manager, my biggest challenge is improving our talent recruitment and retention.
What are your goals for this next year?
My goals for this year are as follows:
Develop a national recruitment strategy Create processes/procedures to ensure that the strategy is operationalized Create a culture of continuous recruitment
What are the keys to accomplishing a school turnaround?
The most important keys to accomplishing a school turnaround are solid leadership, high expectations and continuous improvement.
What most attracted you to this position?
I love the idea that Matchbook Learning is a relatively new national organization that is growing. The idea of coming into an organization where I can take my 10+ years of background and experience and use that to develop and operationalize a solid continuous recruitment strategy is very exciting. It is even more exciting to know that this strategy has the potential to be used and modeled for other organizations through the Accelerator.
How would you describe your most unique accomplishment to date?
My most unique accomplishment to date was my ability to successfully recruit, hire and onboard over 100 employees across the state of Tennessee in a 4-month timeframe. This was an extremely difficult and challenging task for a myriad of reasons, however, I was able to successfully maneuver through those challenges.
Why should gifted educators -- principals and teachers -- consider working for a Matchbook school?
The real question is why would high performing people consider working at Matchbook Learning? That’s easy… We are committed to changing education. We believe, with every fiber of our being, that our children deserve better and that aligns directly with Matchbook. That’s what you learn before you join but after coming on board, interacting with the staff, students, leadership and the board I am further convinced that Matchbook is the perfect fit for me. I am surrounded by great people who are welcoming, supportive, and truly excited about changing education!
What are your expectations a year from now? How will you be different?
My expectations are that I will have professionalized and streamlined Recruitment and Human Resources across Matchbook Learning. I will have closed the gaps by creating policies and procedures that enable us to function as a national leader. My expectations are that I will become a solid leader with Matchbook Learning.
