We are pleased to announce that Robert Burns Elementary Middle School in Detroit, MI, under the leadership of Principal Dwayne Richardson, has partnered with Matchbook Learning to collaboratively lead the implementation of student-centered blended instruction. Burns is part of the Education Achievement Authority (EAA) portfolio of schools.
Principal Richardson was given responsibility for Burns in early 2013 and has guided the faculty in making significant improvements over the last half of this school year. Academic progress is evident throughout the program, and we are pleased to work with him to accelerate the performance plan to more quickly close the learning gap for these students. To learn more about Principal Richardson's vision for Burns, view the accompanying interview.
Nearing the end of its first school year in operation, Michigan’s governor charged the EAA with transforming the lowest 5 percent of the state's persistently lowest-achieving schools by implementing a modern approach to educating students. The district's leadership has created the technology platform, the instructional methods, and the culture to actually accomplish this monumental goal. Student-centered learning (SCL) is the core of their strategy, organizing students by instructional level (rather than age and grade level) and providing the autonomy for them to progress via mastery rather than seat time. Every students has a laptop and is able to access the Buzz platform that encompasses the learning management system, digital content, and assessments.
Applications are currently being received for the following positions at Burns to start in August 2013:
• Elementary Classroom Teacher • Middle School Classroom Teacher • Dean of Instruction
